Hoover @ Uniontown Lake
Canton Repository

SITE: Lake Blue Streak Stadium, Hartville, OH, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS: Hoover 1-3, 1-0; Lake 3-1, 1-1.

LAST WEEK: Hoover 21, Boardman 0; Jackson 13, Lake 10.

LAST MEETING: Hoover won 14-7 in overtime last year.

WHAT TO WATCH: The Vikings did what they should have done last week, and that was to beat up on inexperienced and struggling Boardman. Hoover didn’t do anything fancy except play the kind of defense the community has grown to expect. The Vikings forced turnovers, and the Hoover offense didn’t give up any in return.

Hoover simplified things a little and relied on bruising RB John Bertsch. But Lake isn’t Boardman. The Blue Streaks usually bounce back well after tough losses, but injuries are testing both teams’ resolve and depth. Lake RB A.J. Workman separated his shoulder last week and is doubtful. More of the load will fall on QB John Rutan, and he has delivered when asked.

The Blue Streaks struggled to move the ball last week, but the conditions and a solid defensive effort by Jackson had a lot to do with that. Look for the Streaks to be aggressive on defense and force Hoover to make plays.
