Hoover vs D.C. Coolidge
Canton Repository

SITE: North Canton Memorial Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS: Coolidge 0-0, Hoover 1-0.

LAST WEEK: Hoover 17, Central Catholic 14.

LAST MEETING: First meeting.

WHAT TO WATCH: Hoover enters this game a bit blind, since Coolidge has yet to play. “We have tapes from last year. ... They had a lot of sophomores play last year, and that’s about all we know,” Hoover coach Don Hertler Jr. said. The Colts use a lot of I-formation with a single back and run a lot of sets defensively but usually are out of a 4-3 or 4-4.

Hertler said his team primarily will focus on itself. “We’ve got a lot of areas to improve on,” he said.

Hertler thought his Vikings played hard the entire way against Central, and he saw definite defensive improvement from a year ago.

Offensively, Hertler said, “We’ve got to continue to work on our running game and just block better at all positions.” Senior QB Josh Nettleton made some impressive plays. “He came up with some big throws early, then also in the second half he came up with some big throws,” Hertler said. TE Clay Benko emerged as a go-to guy in clutch situations.
