Hoover vs Uniontown Lake
Canton Repository
SITE: North Canton Memorial Stadium, 7:30 p.m.
RECORDS: Lake 1-3, 0-2; Hoover 3-1, 1-0.
LAST WEEK: Jackson 21, Lake 0; Hoover 19, Boardman 15.
LAST MEETING: Lake won 37-14 last year.
WHAT TO WATCH: Hoover is hitting its stride, but the Vikings are missing about a half dozen starters to injury. One player is out because of discipline issues, so this is a week that finds head coach Don Hertler Jr. searching for someone to step up.
Lake will have to stop RB Scott Gnau, who ran for 86 yards last week.
It was impressive that the Vikings opened league play by winning on the road, but Lake is a better opponent than Boardman. If the Vikings can establish the run and win the line of scrimmage, that is half the battle. Look for Hoover QB Josh Nettleton to have a big night. Nettleton threw for 192 yards last week and is establishing chemistry with WR Kyle Feinberg.
Hoover's young defense continues to improve. LB Jordan Bucar has emerged as a defensive leader. "He leads by action", Hoover head coach Don Hertler Jr. said. "Last week against Boardman, he has a about dozen tackles and 3 sacks."
Lake has to stop the bleeding after getting shut out at home against Jackson. This inexperienced team isn’t feeling good about itself now. One Lake turnover led to an easy Jackson score. A young team can’t make those kinds of mistakes. The Blue Streaks have to play physically and get back to basic football to have a chance.
