Hoover vs Boardman
Canton Repository

SITE: North Canton Memorial Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS: Boardman 2-2, 0-1; Hoover 3-1, 0-1.

LAST MEETING: Hoover won, 19-15, last year.

WHAT TO WATCH: Hoover is looking to regroup after losing, 29-6, at McKinley. The Vikings led, 6-0, and trailed
just 13-6 entering the final quarter before McKinley pulled away. “I thought we played hard, but their better players
played better than our better players,” Hoover coach Don Hertler Jr. said.

“I told our guys, you win with seniors, and we have to bounce back this week."

Making things tougher on the Vikings are injuries. They have a number of players questionable, including
RB-LB Kevin Dahl (elbow) and TE-LB Mitch Rose (knee). Dahl played a half last week with a staph infection in his
elbow. “He really showed me something by attempting to play,” Hertler said. Joining Rose and Dahl on the
questionable list is starting DB Jordan Fleischman.

Game Note: The walking wounded include two captain LB's, Scott Gnau (shoulder) and Jordan Bucar (Neck/shoulder).
Both have been playing injured for several weeks now. "They have demonstrated exceptional leadership by playing
through their injuries," Hoover head coach Don Hertler Jr. said. "And playing at a high level," he added.

The Vikings showed flashes of looking really good last week, but they need to be more consistent.

Boardman will look to pound the ball, something it did last week before losing a 16-7 lead in a 28-16 loss at Jackson.
The Spartans rushed for 306 yards, with Tyler Amendola and Eric Polen each gaining 100 yards.

“They have good speed in some of their skill positions, and they always have good size,” Hertler said. “They run the
wing-T well. ... They’re physical (defensively). They’re playing the old 4-4, and they’re playing it well.”
