Hoover @ Canton GlenOak
Canton Repository
SITE: Fawcett Stadium, Canton, OH, 7:30 p.m.
RECORDS: Hoover 4-2, 1-2; GlenOak 2-4, 0-3.
LAST MEETING: Hoover won, 14-10, last year.
WHAT TO WATCH: GlenOak has lost three straight since Federal League play began.
The Golden Eagles have been in each game but have been unable to come up with
enough big plays. The Eagles had plenty of offense last week in a 35-27 loss at Jackson.
QB Justin Szink and RB Anthony Smith each went over 100 yards rushing. Szink
completed 13-of-18 passes for 136 yards, as he had 288 yards of total offense.
But GlenOak’s defense, which has been strong, gave up 345 yards and some big plays.
Hoover has lost two of its last three games as injuries and inconsistent play have hurt.
The Vikings yielded season highs of 274 rushing yards and 325 total yards last week.
Still, they were only a successful conversion play away from last week’s loss at Lake going
to overtime. QB Jared Wackerly threw for 152 yards, WR Matt Wakulchik had 104 yards
receiving and RB Erik Howard delivered 67-yard TD run in his second varsity game.
The return of RB Kevin Dahl also helped the Hoover running game.
Game Note: To accomodate a rash of injuries and an ineffective run defense in the middle
the past three weeks, Hoover will make a defensive adjustment at linebacker. Senior OLB
Jordan Bucar, leading tackler through six weeks, will move to MLB for the GlenOak game.
Bucar also led the Vikings in tackles last year as a junior from his MLB position. "We need
his toughness in the middle," Hoover head coach Don Hertler Jr. said. "We know he can
play sideline to sideleine," Hertler added.
