Hoover vs Newark Licking Valley
Canton Repository

SITE: North Canton Memorial Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS: Licking Valley 1-0, Hoover 1-0.

LAST WEEK: Licking Valley 27, Zanesville 7; Hoover 38, Washington D.C. Dunbar 8.

WHAT TO WATCH: Licking Valley is regarded by some as a potential state champion in Division III. The Panthers reached the playoffs last year but lost in the first round at home to Canton South. They are led by junior RB-LB Storm Kline, one of the state’s top players. He’s already been offered by Ohio State. “He’s a big, strong, fast kid,” Hoover coach Don Hertler Jr. said. “We’ll need to get to him before he gets going. He’s also a very good middle linebacker who runs to the ball well and tackles well.”

Hoover broke in a bunch of new starters last week and got good results. Senior QB Jared Wackerly threw well and spread it around to six targets. His big-play threats are WR-DB-K Matt Wakulchik and TE-LB Kevin Dahl. Sophomore TB Erick Howard rushed for 114 yards and two TDs in his debut as the feature back.

Dahl and senior DE Greg Tischler led the Viking defense.
