Hoover vs Dunbar
Canton Repository
SITE: North Canton Memorial Stadium, 7:30 p.m.
LAST YEAR'S RECORDS: Dunbar 8-3, Hoover 10-3.
LAST MEETING: Hoover won, 38-8, last year.
WHAT TO WATCH: Hoover could see the most athletic team it plays all year in this game. Dunbar
has won 12 of the last 15 District of Columbia city titles. The Crimson Tide went 8-0 against D.C.
teams last year, outscoring them, 270-61. QB Tyree White returns, while WR-DB Deon Long is a
West Virginia recruit. LB Kevin Burgess leads the defense and is being recruited by Division I colleges.
"They're a big, physical group," Hoover coach Don Hertler Jr. said. "They have good offensive schemes.
They're coached well on defense. We have to really take care of the ball, win the kicking game and
hopefully out-condition them for four quarters."
Hoover wore down Dunbar last year when the Vikings broke open a tight game in the fourth quarter.
Hoover breaks in a variety of new starters, including QB where Joe Cerreta appears just ahead of
Brett Tulodzieski. Both could see action. Junior TB Erick Howard, a 1,330-yard rusher last year,
will be available after missing much of camp. Jordan Witt likely will start at tailback. Hertler wants
the Vikings to be able to establish its running game.
The Crimson Tide lose stars DT Reggie Ellis (Illinois) and ATH Jharron Armstrong (Kent St.),
but return a lot of fire power for the defending DC champions.
QB Tyree White (#10), who passed for 2,035 yards with 20 TDs and ran for 10 more TDs, is back to lead the offense.
He'll have a stable of RBs to hand off to, including Vernard Roberts (#9), Charles Siler (#21), Sam Stockes (#2) and Dejuan Davis (#3).
Prime-time WR Deon Long (#80), who caught 55 passes for 1,152 yards and 13 TDs is also back.
On defense, LB Kevin Burgess (#22), who had 160 tackles (105 solo), is the man.
