WHAT TO WATCH: A Hoover win guarantees the Vikings at least a share of the Federal League title. A GlenOak win could lead to a three-way tie.
The Vikings have won six straight and are gaining more confidence each week. A week after surrendering 42 points in double-overtime win over
at Fitch, the Hoover defense righted itself against McKinley. Nearly half of McKinley's 216 total yards came in the final four minutes. LB Tim Hartzell (two tackles for loss) and DL Dom Boyle (two sacks) led the way.
Offensively, Erick Howard powers the Vikings. He averages 175.3 rushing yards per game. Look for him to get around 40 touches as a runner, receiver and returner.
The development of junior QB Brett Tulodzieski makes the Vikings even more dangerous.
GlenOak junior QB Brandon Martin leads a Golden Eagle offense that has shown an ability to deal with adversity. Injuries at tailback have forced them to dig deep on the depth chart, and Collin Daniels-Mitchell and DeWuan Spencer responded last week.
Against Boardman (week 8), the GlenOak offense produced with third- and fourth-team running backs carrying the load. Collins Daniels-Mitchell and DeWuan Spencer, who shifted from cornerback to running back this week, combined for 31 carries and 155 yards.
WR Zach Hatchett has become a touchdown machine with eight TDs in the last four weeks, five on receptions and three on returns.
GlenOak held Boardman to 199 total yards, the third time in four weeks the Eagles limited an offense to fewer than 200 yards.
