St. Ignatius vs Strongsville Highlights

Strongsville Recap

Yes, the domination was stunning. Yet, it's the way St. Ignatius has
played football most of the last 12 weeks.

The Wildcats, ranked 11th nationally in the ESPN Rise Fab 50,
routed Strongsville, 37-0, in a regional championship game Saturday
night at Parma's Byers Field. They did it with a defense that did not
allow the Mustangs a first down on their first 15 possessions,
an offense that clicked despite a miserable combination of wind,
rain and cold, and special-teams play that controlled field position.

St. Ignatius (12-1) will likely play North Canton Hoover in a Division I
state semifinal game next Saturday, at a site to be determined.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association has the option of
re-bracketing the final four teams in each division.

Andrew Holland threw touchdown passes of 29 yards to Frankie
DeSico and 11 yards to Joey Parris.

Mike Anter scored on runs of 14 and 10 yards for the Wildcats.
St. Ignatius, playing one of Ohio's toughest schedules, has
outscored its last 12 opponents, 423-80, since a 20-17
season-opening loss to Glenville - a team the Wildcats edged,
8-7, last Saturday.

"Both teams were limited by this weather," said St. Ignatius coach
Chuck Kyle. "I think as our kids realized this is the way it was going
to be, most of the conversation was about ignoring that and trying
to have some fun."

The Wildcats' swarming 3-5 defense provided the game's first
touchdown when linebacker Kolin Sullivan recovered a Mustangs'
fumble and stepped 3 yards into the end zone with 3:27 left in the
first quarter.

It was a fitting start for St. Ignatius, as the defense held Strongsville
to 62 total yards and two first downs in 51 plays from scrimmage.
The Mustangs (11-2) had been scoring 32.3 points per game.

"They have a very good offense," said linebacker Seamus Siefring,
"but our coaches came up with some great checks to stop them.
We just tried to get to the ball as fast as we could."

Cornerback Tommy Hunt and safety Patrick Hinkel intercepted
Strongsville passes, and the special-teams play featured Seamus
Hennessey's 35-yard field goal and DeSico's daring punt returns.
The 5-8, 185-pound DeSico had runbacks of 35, 18, 25, 11, 14 and
11 yards. Three of the returns helped set up touchdowns.

"I got some huge blocks," DeSico said. "The conditions were terrible."

Anter followed powerful blocking to rush for 126 yards in 27 carries.
Holland, 7-of-17 for 107 yards, hit six straight passes for 87 yards
during two touchdown drives that built a 24-0 halftime lead.
