Hoover High School football star Erick Howard picked up another prestigious honor — earning
a spot on Parade Magazine’s 47th annual All-America High School Football Team.
Howard is one of 58 players from 24 states to make the team that will be featured in the
Sunday issue of Parade, which is published in The Repository.
Howard is Stark County’s career rushing leader and Ohio’s second two-time winner of
Mr. Football. He ran for 6,013 yards in his four years at Hoover. He also set county records
for most career points (478) and touchdowns (79). He made 208 tackles as a linebacker
during his final two seasons.
Howard rushed for 2,056 yards in 11 games this past season. He led the Vikings to the
Division I state semifinals in 2008, gaining 2,387 yards in 14 games.
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Howard is one of nine running backs on the team. He also is one
of three Ohio players on the team. West Chester Lakota linebacker Jordan Hicks and
Glenville defensive back Latwan Anderson also earned spots.
Hicks was named the nation’s top linebacker. He is being recruited by the likes of Ohio State,
Florida and Texas.
