SITE: Perry Stadium, 7:30 p.m.
RECORDS: Perry 3-0, Hoover 2-1.
LAST WEEK: Perry 20 - Brunswick 3; Lexington 10 - Hoover 7.
Perry is still a run first, pass second offense led by Junior tailback Jon Miller (5-foot-10, 190). Thus far this year, Miller has rushed for 288 yards on 46 carries and scored 5 rushing TD's and 1 receiving TD's. The Perry Panthers have retired the wing-T offense and have adopted the standard "I" formation. The offense is directed by first year starter QB Cody Minor (Senior). He has completed 25 throws in 43 attempts, scoring 3 times through the air. He has also rushed for one score.
Perry's Offensive line is led by OT Steven Rowe (Senior), a load at 6-foot-5, 295 pounds. He is helped by Seniors, Nick Boron, Warren Parks, Logan Bishop and Junior Connor Whitacre.
Defensively, the Panthers operate out of a base 4-3 scheme that has been particularly stingy thus far. Tackle Tony Rohr (Junior) anchors the Panthers’ line. Tony Wise (Senior) brings his physical presence (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) to a linebacker position, while Tony Magnacca (Senior) and Josiah Dehnke (Senior) lead the secondary.

BALANCED PANTHERS
There is plenty to like when Perry head coach Keith Boedicker scans the stat sheet. Here’s what stands out:
“We’re very balanced overall,” Boedicker said. “We don’t have any superstars. We’ve just got a lot of good, solid football players, a lot of guys contributing in a lot of areas.
“What I’m most excited about is we’ve got a lot of guys who are getting their first taste of varsity football, and they’re really responding to it.”
Indeed. The Panthers have a chance to go 4-0 for just the second time in a decade.
IMPRESSIVE
The Panthers caught the eye of Hoover head coach Don Hertler Jr., whose 2-1 Vikings travel to Perry tonight.
“I think they’re a heckuva football team now,” Hertler said. “They have great size. They’ve got a great tailback (Jon Miller) and running game, also mixing the pass in well. Their offensive and defensive fronts are awfully good. They have speed in the right spots. A lot of experience back. Their attitude is different.
“I don’t see a whole lot of holes.”
TIME TO BE TOUGH
Hertler made this observation about his defense, which is going to be challenged by Perry’s big offensive line and physical style.
“We’re playing hard, but we’re definitely not as physical a group as we need to be at this point,” Hertler said. “We’re not Federal League physical at this point. We’re working on that.” (2)
