CANTON McKinley High School senior quarterback Tyler Foster was named the WHBC Stark County MVP during the radio station’s annual banquet Thursday night at Skyland Pines Rustic Lodge.

Foster helped lead the Bulldogs to a share of the Federal League title and a berth in the Division I state playoffs. He complete 124 of 221 passes for 1,961 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions this season. Foster also ran for 505 yards and 12 TDs.

Minerva’s Dale Soles was named the WHBC Stark County Coach of the Year. Soles guided Minerva to an NBC title and a perfect 10-0 record during the regular season. The Lions also won a playoff game for the first time in school history, beating Poland Seminary.

Also, Jackson senior quarterback Cooper Merrill received the Jim Johnson Sportsmanship Award, while Jackson senior wide receiver Nolan Jones received the Jim Muzzy Scholastic Award.

Former Newark Catholic football coach and athletic director J.D. Graham was the guest speaker at the event. Graham guided Newark Catholic to 16 playoff appearances, including eight state title appearances in a row, and seven state championships.
