SCOUTING REPORT:

It’s hard to know what to expect from Lake. The Blue Streaks have replaced both of their lines and numerous talented skill players on both sides of the ball from a Division II state semifinalist last year. Josh Peach (Senior) has taken over at quarterback, while a committee of Jarrod Daugherty (Senior) and Matt Blasiole (Sophomore) share carries after Lake all-time leading rusher Jim Luther graduated.

“I think scheme-wise our guys have caught on very well,” said Durbin, who has 12 lettermen back. “Technique-wise, they have a long way to go. I don’t know if undisciplined is the word, but we haven’t trained ourselves to play with great technique. That’s going to be a factor against us on both sides of the ball. We keep trying to hammer that to them. That has to improve for us to compete.” - Lake Head Coach, Jeff Durbin

The Blue Streaks basically return four starters — tight end Dylan Seibel, strong safety Zach Gazdacko and linebackers Jarrod Daugherty and Corey Paulino — as well as place-kicker Matt Gallegly.

Complicating the situation is turnover on the coaching staff, too. Durbin lost his son and defensive coordinator, Luke, to Massillon. Veteran assistants Steve Lippe and Mike Parker also stepped aside to spend more time with their families. (1)

Lake has continually improved as the season progresses. The early season problems that plagued this young team, lack of offensive consistency and poor tackling have been reduced significantly. “Our offense is trying to grow up and find out who we are,” Durbin said. Durbin knows his team will continue to work toward finding that first win. Lake is a proud and successful football program. This year's start does not sit well with them. They are working hard to right the ship. If taken too lightly by an opponent, Lake will prevail. Expect Lake to play their best football of the year.
