BIG VICTORY in North Canton as the Hoover Vikings beat the Perry Panthers in front of 6,000
on a perfect football night. Last night was the kickoff of the Federal League full schedule and a
perfect start for the Vikings. The Vikings fell behind early in the first quarter 0 -14, but never
lost hope. Hoover made some adjustments, took control of the game and never looked
back as they proceeded to outscore Perry 38 - 6 the remainder of the game.

Sparked by Xavier Logan's exciting kickoff returns, Hoover's offense took the field and would
not be denied as they scored on most every possession. Hoover's sophomore tailback,
Alex Welsh sliced through the Perry defense all night long on his way to 130 yards on 26 carries.

Hoover's quarterback, Austin Appleby, dissected the Perry secondary with precision and a
canon arm showing us why he's Purdue bound. Appleby threw for four TD's and had a
74% completion percentage. Twice, Appleby appeared to have ice-water in his veins as he
bought time in the pocket before finding Austin Feinberg and Brandon Strausser for touchdowns.
Both coming on fourth-down plays inside the Perry 10 yard line.

The Hoover offensive line deserves much credit for providing Appleby ample time in the
pocket and dominating the line of scrimmage for Welsh and Justin Smith to do their thing.
Smith came into the game for the final offensive series and provided a powerful running attack
that chewed up yardage and first downs as Hoover took care of clock management. Everyone
knew Hoover was going to run the ball, but that didn't stop Justin Smith and the offensive line
as they continued to plow forward pilling-up first down after first down.

Defensively, the Vikings front eight came to play and held a very good Perry ground game
in check for the majority of the night. The secondary was led by Austin Feinberg who had
two interceptions, returning one to the house. Feinberg also added two receiving TD's as
the recipient of Appleby passes.
