Hoover's tough week ends on a good note

If Hoover had a nightmare before the high school football season started, it
couldn’t have been worse than the first two weeks. But nothing could have prepared the Vikings for the heart-wrenching week they had last week.
The mother of starting nose guard John Zucal died suddenly in her sleep last Sunday. Heather Zucal’s calling hours were Thursday and the funeral Friday, the night Hoover had to travel to Lexington. Then Monday, Cynthia Croley, an art teacher in North Canton City Schools, passed away. And the father of one of head coach Don Hertler Jr.’s students was shot and killed last week.
When the Vikings, with their backs against the wall and hearts hurting, came out against Lexington, it was a welcomed release from some of life’s very real tragedies.
“It was an emotional week for John Zucal and obviously he didn’t play in the game, but our kids had a better week of practice and we started competing better in practice,” Hertler said. “We had lot to play for that’s a lot bigger than wins and losses. We had a family to play for and our kids responded pretty well.” Read more...
