Don Hertler Jr. - Head Football Coach
Coach Hertler is a 1981 graduate of Hoover High School. As a Hoover athlete,
he won eight varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. He was an all-county
quarterback, who helped lead the 1979 and 1980 Hoover teams to Federal League
Championships. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from
Ashland University in 1985.
Coach Hertler began his coaching career as an assistant varsity coach at Conotton
Valley where he was Offensive Coordinator, Offensive Line Coach, Defensive Line
Coach, and Special Teams Coach. In 1986 his team qualified for the State Playoffs
and ranked 10th in the AP Poll, with a 10-1 record.
From 1987 to 1994 Coach Hertler was Head Football Coach at Garaway High School.
During his eight years there, his record was 66-15, and his offenses averages 25 to 32
points per game. His teams had Top Ten rankings every season. 1n 1994, his team
had a 10-1 record and was ranked fourth in the Final State Division V AP Poll, and
qualified for the State Playoffs.
He moved to Massillon Washington High School in 1995 as Offensive Coordinator,
finishing the season with a 7-3 record.
Since coming to North Canton Hoover High School in 1996 Coach Hertler and his staff have compiled a record of 115 - 45 with eight Federal League Championships in thirteen years. His teams have qualified for the Division I State Playoffs eleven times in those thirteen years. Three times advancing to the Regional Final and being awarded the Region 2 Championship in 2008.
As Head Coach, his overall record stands at 181 - 60 through 22 seasons.
